Background

Walter graduated from the University of Sydney in 2016 with a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering (Telecommunications), and in 2019 with a Masters of Philosophy (Engineering and IT). His thesis focused on integrated optical phased arrays and high efficient spot-size converting couplers for LIDAR applications. His research provided deep expertise in LIDAR technology, particularly with the design and simulation of silicon-on-insulator structures for reducing waveguide crosstalk and improving nanophotonic optical phased arrays.

Walter has also been involved with medical device technology during his Masters of Philosophy research, and has a good understanding of the nature of type-1/type-2 diabetes and glucose monitoring technologies. Furthermore, he has experience with conducting chemical experiments and analysis with various laboratory equipment, as well as designing and 3D printing medical device housings.

Walter joined Halfords IP in 2019 and completed his Master of Intellectual Property Law in 2022. He then became a Registered Trans-Tasman Patent and Trademark Attorney in January 2023.

Outside of work, Walter is an enthusiastic swimmer with a keen interest in emerging AI technology and software development.
