Dan has over 15 years of experience assisting leading Australian innovators and businesses protect their IP both in Australia and overseas. He specialises in Patents and Designs, assisting both with the securement of these rights, and issues relating to their infringement and validity. In addition to his Australian based clients, Dan assists overseas Attorneys and multi-national corporations to navigate Australian IP practice. He has experience helping clients in a broad range of industries including medical devices, domestic appliances, mining, building and construction, and agriculture. He enjoys seeing his clients’ products succeed in the market.
Dan graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nanotechnology from the University of New South Wales achieving first class honours. Being a multidisciplinary degree, with courses taught by the schools of chemistry, physics, materials science and engineering, and biotechnology and biomolecular sciences, these studies provided him with a broad technical background and a unique combination of skills which allow him to deal with inventions that bridge technical areas. His honours research involved investigating bio-active surface coatings for medical implants. Dan also later did some medical studies at the University of Notre Dame in Sydney, where he gained additional technical knowledge in the medical space.
Dan completed his Patent Attorney studies at the Australian Institute of Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys (IPTA) and the University of Technology, Sydney. He began his career in IP at Davies Collison Cave, one of Australia’s largest IP firms, where he worked for 10 years. In 2018 Dan joined Halfords IP, becoming a partner of the firm shortly thereafter. He is currently completing his JD at the University of Sydney.
In his spare time Dan enjoys surfing, tennis with friends, and spending time with his family, especially his new baby boy Luca.
