Mattia is a patent attorney with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and a PhD in physics, specialised in the protection of electrical and software inventions. He completed his legal qualifications at the University of Melbourne and has been practising since 2015.

Background

Mattia’s interest in patents began during his PhD work to develop radio-frequency processors with exceptional performance enabled by optical interactions. He was an inventor on a patent awarded for that work.

With his knowledge of electrical engineering and physics, Mattia has represented clients from various fields of technology, including healthcare, renewable energy, and augmented reality. He has also assisted clients to patent software and AI inventions. He has years of experience in dealing with the unique challenges that arise when patenting software in Australia and New Zealand.

Aside from preparing and prosecuting patent applications, Mattia has conducted infringement analyses, freedom-to-operate searches, and patent oppositions. He has also advised clients in licensing negotiations.
