Mattia specialises in protecting electrical and software inventions through patents and registered designs. He is experienced in every stage of the patent application process, from patent drafting to examination and grant. Mattia has also conducted infringement analyses, freedom-to-operate searches, licensing negotiations, and patent oppositions.

Background

Mattia initially earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and worked at leading telecommunications and medical device companies. He then completed a PhD in physics, developing radio-frequency circuits that used optical signal processing to achieve record performance.

In 2015 Mattia started working at a major intellectual property firm before joining Halfords IP in 2021. Since then, he has advised clients from many fields of technology, including healthcare, renewable energy, and augmented reality. He regularly deals with the unique challenges encountered when patenting software in Australia and New Zealand.
