Mattia handles patent applications and prosecutions, with a focus on electrical and mechanical inventions including ICT, energy storage, virtual reality, and medical technology. He has experience in dealing with the unique challenges presented by patenting software.

Background

Mattia joined Halfords IP in 2021, after working for more than five years at one of Australia’s largest intellectual property firms.

Prior to joining the legal profession, Mattia worked as an electrical engineer in Australia’s largest telecommunications company and in one of Australia’s leading medical device companies. Following his industry experience, Mattia returned to academia to undertake research in photonics and microwave engineering, which resulted in a patent and several grants.

Mattia holds a degree in electrical engineering, for which he was awarded the university medal, and a PhD in physics, both from the University of Sydney. He also completed a master’s degree in intellectual property law at the University of Melbourne.
